Since the show I have steadily been working on orders that were promised before Christmas. The heater in my studio is turned up on high, but it has been so cold outside that the water line (to the studio) has been frozen for the past week; thus, I have been carrying gallon jugs of HOT, HOT, HOT water from my house.
My gas kilns, of course, are located outside and I have been firing them every other day. Coping with the freezing temperatures and wind chill factors (that are in the teens) makes getting dressed a 20 minute event. Picture the kid that can hardly move because of all the clothing. . . that's me.
As I have customers coming to pick up their pots this weekend, tomorrow I will be unloading the kiln (which I fired today) and reloading it and firing again. And I just heard the local weatherman say that they are expecting 2 to 4 inches of SNOW here tomorrow!!!! GREAT!!!

Tomorrow I will be firing my last load of pots for the Museum show (Nov. 20,21). I am really, really happy (and proud) with 90% of my pots. And let me tell you, that is a bold statement coming from me! The other 10% is good, but. . . they just don't knock my socks off.
I had hoped to be set up at two locations this year, but a sinus infection and root canal sorta blew that out of the water.

Thanks to Kathy Wright everything went smoothly at the Hospice auction. The food was great, the products sold were top quality, and the volunteers & auctioneers did a great job.
The only disappointment (for me), was that I didn't win the 42" flat screen TV that was raffled off. Oh well, maybe next year.

My large bowl for the Museum of Traditional Potters SEAGROVE festival auction came out beautifully. In my haste to deliver it, I didn't take a picture. Luckily, I have a simiar bowl, so I will post a picture of it tomorrow.
The Museum of NC Traditional Pottery has also invited me to participate in the 16th Annual Christmas Open House December 4 & 5, 2010. A map will be available with directions to my studio for this special event.
JUST A THOUGHT: Any day above ground is a GOOD DAY.

Potters are working really hard getting ready for the two festivals that will be held in Seagrove, November 20,21. From the quality of pots (that I've seen), this year it's going to be even more difficult for the customers to decide.
Booth numbers have now been assigned for the Museum of Tradional Potters Festival. My booth will be number 78, which is located in the second tent.
Next weekend I will be at the Greensboro show.

It's rained here all day, so it was the perfect time to fire the gas kiln. And, even though I have been doing this for years, I am still like a kid when I open the lid. Sometimes it's exactly what I wanted, but other times. . . well, I have a barrel full of the "other times".
My next show will be October 24th in Greensboro, NC at the historical Farmer's Market building on Yanceyville Street. I've been participating in this pottery show for a number of years and it's always nice to see returning customers. In addition to my usual shapes, I will also have some larger pieces. Five pound bowls, large bottles, vases, etc.
Thought for the day: BE PRODUCTIVE. SPEND LESS TIME WORRYING WHO'S RIGHT, AND MORE TIME DECIDING WHAT'S RIGHT.

Today I finished picking up pottery for our Hospice Auction. Really breathtaking pots were donated and I have to admit that, if I can afford it, one of those pots will be soon be residing in my home!
In addition to pottery there are also other donations. One was from Cox's Harley Davidson, located on Hwy 134, which is right off 220 Hwy between Asheboro and Seagrove. These folks are unbelievable for all the good work they do to help out various organizations in our community. Thank you Kevin and the whole gang at Cox's. If you are a motorcyle enthusist, please put them on your list of cycle shops to check out.

WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES. . . ANOTHER ONE OPENS.

On November 20-21, I will be participating in the Museum of North Carolina Traditional Pottery Festival. The festival is located at Seagrove School, 528 Old Plank Road, Seagrove, NC.
For 28 years pottery lovers and collectors have marked their calendars for this special event. Come be part of the fun and excitement for their 29th year.
I hope to see all my friends and customers, as well as all new comers to this popular event.
On your way to the festival, please stop by Seagrove Creations, 354 Little River Road, and see a great array of my pots. I will be making special pieces that will only be sold at Seagrove Creations. Who knows, I may even be there!

Okay!!!!!!!! I am one of those artist that would rather create than be on the computer; thus, no blogs for a long time.
I am a volunteer for our local Hospice. At the present time we are working on our 25th Annual Hospice Auction & BBQ to be held November 6, at Southwest Randolph High School.
Each year Hospice picks a potter to create a Christmas Angel for them. Luckily, this year my angel was chosen. I will post a picture at a later date. Hospice sells these ornaments for $10 each and the proceeds will go towards the new facility that is being built for Hospice patients.
I am very proud to announce that The North Carolina Pottery Center (which is located in downtown Seagrove) now carries my pots. And just a mile (or so) up the road, is Seagrove Creations; a beautiful gallery owned by Mike & Sandra Walker which carries an even larger selection of my work. In nearby Asheboro, you can find my pots at the Randolph County Art's Guild.
To my customers that are waiting on pots they ordered, I'm working on them (honestly).

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my friend, Charles Moore on January 9th.
Most people know Charles from his signature chickens, horses, pigs, etc., as well as folk art themes made from clay.
In our area he is known as a folk potter of great skill, a man that could do just about anything, and a man that would go out of his way to help any man, women and child. He was always good natured and as Vernon Owen (who owns Jugtown Pottery where Charles worked for 40 years) says, "We had known each other and worked together all our lives, and we never had a cross word" . . . He was that type of man.
At the funeral each grandchild told how very proud they were of their Grandfather and how he had always had time for them no matter what else he had going on. Their memories were so touching that I don't think there was a dry eye in the church.
I will remember him as the most honest, kind, humble and caring human being that I ever had the privilege of calling my best friend.
